Introduction
In this article, we will discuss about the Circuit Diagram of LA4440 Bridge Amplifier with Tone Control and MP3 Player.
The LA4440 is a two-channel audio power amplifier IC with an output power of 6 watts per channel, suitable for use with speakers of 4-8 ohms. In this circuit, we will be using two LA4440s configured in bridge mode, which will result in an output power of 19 watts. This circuit also includes tone control and an MP3 player for audio input.
The circuit diagram for this amplifier can be broadly divided into three sections – the power supply section, the tone control section and the amplifier section.
Amplifier Section
In this section, we have used one LA4440 IC configured in bridge mode, which provides a higher output power compared to the standard configuration. In bridge mode, the internal ICs work in tandem such that one IC amplifies the positive half of the audio signal and the other IC amplifies the negative half of the audio signal.
The audio signal received from the tone control section is fed to both internal LA4440 ICs. The output of both ICs are connected to a bridge rectifier circuit, consisting of diodes, which rectify the amplified audio signal and convert it into a DC signal.
The DC signal is then filtered using a capacitor, resulting in a smooth DC signal, which can be used to drive the speakers. The speakers are connected to the output pins of the IC, as shown in the circuit diagram.

Tone Control Section
In this section, we have used a passive tone control circuit, which provides adjustable bass and treble controls as well as the master volume control. The circuit consists of a few passive components, including resistors, capacitors and potentiometers.
The input signal is first fed to the potentiometer. This signal is then passed through low-pass filter and high-pass filter, which are formed using capacitors and resistors, respectively. These filters attenuate the high-frequency and low-frequency components of the signal, resulting in a signal with controllable high and low frequencies.
The output of MP3 player is fed to tone control potentiometers, which are used to adjust the bass and treble levels, respectively. The output of the tone control section is then fed to the amplifier section.
MP3 Player
In this circuit, we have also included an MP3 player, which allows audio input from external devices, such as smartphones or laptops. The MP3 player circuit consists of a micro-SD card reader, an MP3 decoder module and an audio amplifier.
The micro-SD card reader is used to play audio files stored in a micro-SD card. The MP3 decoder module decodes the audio files and generates a digital audio signal, which is then fed to the tone controller.
Power Supply Section
In this section, we have used an AC-DC adapter with an input voltage of 12V of 2A. The output of this adapter is connected to a bridge rectifier circuit, consisting of four diodes , which rectify the AC signal and convert it into a pulsating DC signal. This pulsating DC signal is then filtered using a 2200µF capacitor, C1 and a 10Ω resistor, R1, resulting in a smooth DC signal, which can be used to power the amplifier circuit.
Advantages of the Circuit
The LA4440 bridge amplifier with tone control and MP3 player has several advantages over other amplifier circuits. Firstly, the bridge configuration of the LA4440 ICs provides higher output power, making it suitable for use with larger speakers. Secondly, the passive tone control circuit provides adjustable bass and treble levels, which can be customized according to personal preferences. Finally, the MP3 player circuit provides a convenient way to play audio files from external devices, without the need for additional equipment. You can use this single IC as a stereo amplifier with tone control (bass treble & volume) six watts per channel.
Applications of the Circuit
The LA4440 bridge amplifier with tone control and MP3 player can be used in a variety of applications, including:
- Home audio systems
- Portable speakers
- PA systems
- Car audio systems
