Introduction
The MJE13003 is an NPN power transistor designed for high-voltage and medium-current applications. Packaged in the TO-126 case, this transistor is especially popular in low-cost switching power supplies, energy-saving lamps, CFLs, and SMPS circuits. With its high collector-emitter breakdown voltage and reliable switching speed, the MJE13003 provides excellent performance in circuits where efficiency and durability are critical.

This transistor can handle up to 400V collector-emitter voltage, which makes it highly suitable for AC mains-operated applications. It is optimized for fast switching operations, making it an ideal component for inverter circuits, lighting ballasts, and chopper circuits. Its medium collector current rating allows it to work in a wide range of applications without requiring heavy heatsinks in normal operating conditions.
MJE13003 NPN Power Transistor

The MJE13003 transistor has become a standard choice in consumer electronics and industrial equipment, particularly in power supply units (PSUs). Due to its cost-effectiveness and easy availability, it is used in millions of devices globally. Designers prefer it because of its stable performance, compact TO-126 package, and high reliability in switching applications.

Key Applications of MJE13003 NPN Power Transistor
- Switching power supplies (SMPS)
- Energy-saving lamps (CFL, LED drivers)
- Chopper circuits
- Inverter and converter circuits
- Power regulation circuits
- General-purpose high-voltage switching
PNP Complimentary Transistor
Unfortunately, there is no direct PNP complementary transistor in the same MJE1300x family. For high-voltage switching designs, engineers typically pair it with another high-voltage PNP transistor from a different series, depending on the application, such as:
- MJE350 (PNP, -300V, TO-126 package) – sometimes used in driver stages.
- BD244C (PNP, -100V, TO-220) – in lower-voltage complementary circuits.
- General high-voltage PNP transistors (e.g., 2SA series like 2SA1837).
In SMPS and CFL circuits, however, true complementary PNP pairs are not always required, since the design often uses only NPN transistors for switching.
